CHARACTER NAME: Hu Tao
CANON: Genshin Impact
CANON POINT: After Version 3.4 Event: The Exquisite Night Chimes
AGE: No canon age but around seventeen
BACKGROUND
HISTORY: Here!
PERSONALITY:What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?
The impression Hu Tao gives when meeting someone new is how cheerful and optimistic she is for a funeral director. Most would assume that someone with such a person would be gloomy or withdrawn. However, she is the opposite as she is loud, mischievous, and lively. It even came to a point where her employer, Zhongli, mentioned how he couldn’t stand her because of how annoyingly bright she is. Due to this, those who are not familiar with her can see her as somewhat strange to handle as she does not fit the traditional customs of Liyue. After all, it is considered taboo to talk about death in her country. Yet, she does not seem to care and simply makes light of it and jokes around as she believes people should be more open minded to someone so natural.
Due to this, her true nature isn’t too different from how people see her when meeting her for the first time. If anything, they could see how perspective she could be. For instance, in her story quest, she asked various people about their health and people called her trying to sell her coffins to them. In reality, she was asking as there was a spirit who used to be friends with those people and wanted to see how they were. Not only that, she has occasionally shown how she could read people and knows what they want to say. She just pretends not to for the sake of having fun.How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?
Hu Tao isn’t one to get stressed easily. If anything, she’s someone who tries her best to remain as calm as she could until she finds her solution to the problem. Every single time the traveler sees her, she is always seen with a smile on her face and never seems to fret about anything. That said, should an emergency come up, her first instinct is to find the source of the problem and deal with it herself. While she would much rather talk things out, she would not hesitate to fight if others are in danger. Since she knows she could die at any given moment, she still wouldn’t panic as she knows it wouldn’t solve anything.
At the same time, she also wouldn’t mind letting others take charge should an emergency come up. As much as she is used to giving orders around, she also knows when to take a step back and help others on the sidelines. What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character?
Hu Tao’s goals are to bring as much fame as she can to her family business. Given how it’s heavily implied that she doesn’t have any living relatives, her business is the only thing she has. She wouldn’t mind doing strange things such as delivering coupons to a deal regarding coffins, doing singing projects to promote her business or even finding out what the newest trends are in order to see her business is growing. While she knows that being a funeral director isn’t a job that brings a lot of business, she still would do just about anything to make sure it succeeds.
Additionally, another one of her goals is to live her life without any regrets. Since she works with the dead often, she wants to live her life to the fullest. She wants to make sure that she enjoys her life as much as can as she knows her time on Teyat isn’t long. For her, it’s important as she wants to live her life the same way as her grandfather did. Since he never said goodbye to her, she spent the past two days trying to find his spirit. When others told her that he left their world and how he lived his life the way he wanted, it made Hu Tao think the same way. Besides, what’s a life worth living if one can’t have any fun right?
INVENTORY: Staff of Homa and the clothes on her back
POWERS
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Hu Tao's element is pyro, which means most of her power is fire based. Additionally, since she fights with a polearm, a lot of her attacks are wide. She also has the ability to phase through her enemies whenever she runs. When Hu Tao enters her Paramita Papilio state, that means her health powers drop to 50% in order to deal greater damage to her enemies. However, she can regain her HP whenever she hits an enemy during that state.
Also, she has the ability to make two different dishes. One is normal and the other is "Suspicious". Regardless, they both still have the same ability to help heal people.
NERFING: With her powers, it would be enough to burn a small portion of a tree. As for her physical abilities, it would be enough to stagger someone to the ground but that’s about it. While she has an ability to deal greater damage, it would be enough to hurt someone to leave a lasting bruise

Character: Hu Tao
Canon: Genshin Impact; Post Lantern Rite 2.4
Age: Between 16-18
Background Information: Hu Tao Wiki!
Personality:
Hu Tao is a strange one. On the one hand, she is never one to follow what is considered traditional and yet, tries her best to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather. She is someone who likes to talk of death regardless of how taboo it is but respects how burials are to be performed.
One thing one would notice right away is how cheerful Hu Tao is despite her occupation. While she is a funeral director, she has no problem making jokes or trying her best to make someone smile. This was shown as the first thing she did when meeting the traveler was to greet them with a smile as she remarked to one of her employees that they weren’t ghosts. If anything, she simply joked how they were just future clients of hers. This is further shown when Zhongli said how he couldn’t stand her simply because of how annoyingly joyful she was. As cheerful as she is, she has no problem making jokes about death. Despite it being a taboo in Liyue, she believes that it shouldn’t be.
It has led her to be the weirdo in her town as she keeps referring to people as her future ‘clients’ as everyone will eventually die. To further emphasize how weird she is, she is known to walk down the streets of Liyue in the middle of the night simply to sing or to make poetry. She also has no problem with calling two lion statues as her pets much to the confusion of the people. Hu Tao is also weird in the sense that she likes to tease people frequently. Again, she has no problem telling the traveler how one of her employees is scared of his own shadow since he is working with the death. Or how she became fast friends with Venti simply because of how they like to tease Zhongli and how they banter a lot. This is also proven when she and Xingqiu like to have poetry battles as playful banter as well.
Due to how optimistic she could be, this could potentially lead her to be oblivious to the people around her. While she could read people, there are times when her actions could accidentally bother some. For instance, she has a business and will do whatever it takes to make sure it keeps going. So much so that people had called the military on her to stop bothering people about selling coffins. She meant no ill harm but she could be overly confident in her abilities as she is trying to keep her business going. However, in her mind, she simply wants to live her life with no regrets.
Despite how nontraditional she is, she fully heartedly follows in her family’s business as family means everything to her. In her character quest, she proudly tells the traveler of how her ancestors used to be doctors before they became funeral directors. Not only that, it has been stated that Hu Tao was very close to her grandfather. After he died, she went out of her way to see his ghost one last time as a final goodbye. Once she realized that he left without any regrets, she had an epiphany and realized how she should do the same. Additionally, despite how she jokes about death, she takes her job seriously. She will go out of her way to customize funerals just for a specific person as she believes that each person should get their own personal sendoff.
Overall, Hu Tao is an oddball compared to the traditionalist values of Liyue. Despite not following their rules, Hu Tao wants to live her life the way she wants to. She knows that everyone will die and it’s best to have a little fun before she dies.

Suitability & Plans: I think given Hu Tao’s creativity, she could generate a lot of crazy things with dreamotion and run wild with it. She did manage to create a ghost with her burst energy somehow…
Since she has no problem being weird, she could think of interesting things. Not only that, my plans for her are to generate as much CR as she can. She is often labeled as ‘weird’ since she’s not really traditional for Liyue and doesn’t have a lot of friends. Being a place with others that might understand her off brand personality.

NAME: Hu Tao
CANON: Genshin Impact
CANON REFERENCE: Canon Info, Character Info
CANON POINT: Post Lantern Rite, 2.4
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: There's no canon age but she appears to be between 16 to 19 years old.
APPEARANCE: Here you go!
CONTRACT PAYMENT: For her business to be successful and have her undertakers to be well off.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Family means everything to Hu Tao. Otherwise, she wouldn’t work so hard to keep her family business going for 77 generations. With the weight of this on her shoulders, she knows she has to uphold her family traditions as she does not want to disappoint them. Throughout her story quest, she remarks about her family’s history with the Archeon war and how they used to be doctors. It shows how much pride she has in her family. This was proven when she did her best to hold the best funeral for her late grandfather at the young age of 13. Not only did she want to show the world that she was more than capable, she also wanted to show her highest respect to her grandfather. Speaking about him, this also shows how much she greatly respects her family as she went out of her way to go to The Border to say her final farewell. Despite trying to find him for two days, she didn’t give up until she found her answer. Once again, this shows how much family means to her.
As for those who are a part of her family, it would be people who work for her. Since she is without any family members for five years, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see those who work for her as family. She has no problem teasing them in a familial sense. However, the problem is she isn’t sure if they think the same way given how people don’t like her. After all, they are still her employees. She’s not quick to say that they are a part of her family just yet as they are part of her business. They have contracts to fulfill.
What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?
Hu Tao has many hobbies! When she’s not busy with her business, she likes to spend her time writing poetry or playing pranks with the locals. She is known to go out late at night and write poetry. In fact, she is known to performing poetry battles with Xingqiu and Chongyun whenever she has the time! Her pranks are lighthearted as it’s a means to fill her time to avoid boredom. She mentioned how boredom was worse than death and thus, she would do anything to keep herself entertained. These pranks include surprising people like Xiangling as she is easy to scare and give random names to the lion statues since she viewed them as her “children”. When she was finished with them, she remarked how the statues grew up and they don’t need her anymore.
That being said, despite how silly she can be, she knows when to get serious. She knows when to be strict about her business and when it is time for hobbies. Throughout her story quest, she did not stop finding “Big G” until she found her answer. While she did take a momentary pause to help a local out with his problems, it was only because the issue was easy to resolve. Luckily, she also knows when to take a break from her duties as she is someone who likes to live life to the fullest!
Your Faction leader, not just your boss but the leader, has asked you to carry out a hit. The target is a non-affiliated public leader, well-liked by the people of the city. Do you carry it out? Why or why not?
Despite Hu Tao’s association with death, she is ultimately a person with good morals and strong ideals. She will only kill someone if they absolutely deserve it. Even then, she would hesitate as she has a great respect for death. She will not cut someone’s life short. That being said, carrying out a hit on a well-liked person could go either way as she isn’t someone who sees things purely in black and white. Was this well-liked person evil in any way? Did they do some unspeakable act that required a hit? If he is truly evil, then she would put a stop to their actions.
Now if the person truly is a good person, Hu Tao would refuse to kill them no matter what. In the end, she knows what her convictions are. She will accept responsibility and accept punishment.
How do you define "failure"? How do you deal with the consequences of failure, from light to severe?
Honestly? Hu Tao would define “failure” if every single attempt to do something does not succeed. She is someone that always tries to look at everything from a different angle given her job as a funeral parlor. Since nobody wants to buy a coffin, she needs to think of various marketing strategies to be “successful”. Additionally, her definition of “failure” would also be disappointment from her family. She has the weight of 76 generations under her shoulder. Should she fail to keep the business running, that would be disastrous.
With this, she already knows the consequences of failure well. From the lightest, it would be losing potential clients. The most severe is letting her family down along with her undertakers.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Talent List
Hu Tao's element is pyro, that means most of her power is fire based. Additionally, since she fights with a pole arm, a lot of her attacks are wide. She also has the ability to phase through her enemies whenever she runs. When Hu Tao enters her Paramita Papilio state, that means her health powers drop to 50% in order to deal greater damage to her enemies. However, she can regain her HP whenever she hits an enemy during that state.
Also, she is the ability to make two different dishes. One is normal and the other is "Suspicious". Regardless, they both still have the same ability to help heal people.
SUITABILITY: Hu Tao is well aware of the nature of death. With this, she knows how unsightly it is to see how people die. This can include unspeakable things people can do to others. She knows how the world works. She has worked with the Fatui, an organization that can be questionable at best and is aware of what the Liyue Qixing can do. She knows of treasure hoarders who can also do dangerous things to others. Hu Tao is also used to fighting and violence given how much she travels. She has no problem fighting various monsters and hilichurls.
While she might struggle with the lifestyle within the game, it would not surprise her as she knows the darkness of people’s hearts. After all, she already works around dead people.
FACTION SUITABILITY:
The Shuten Clan - Despite Hu Tao not being interested in becoming the best in strength, she is very passionate in her ideals. She has no problem in expressing her emotions and letting her opinion be heard. She is a hard worker and will do whatever it takes to make sure that her business keeps on running. Should she be in this clan, Hu Tao would more than likely try to befriend the leader and play various pranks with him to get on his good side. This would allow her to slowly influence him to see if there’s a better way to settle disagreements with discussion rather than violence.
If anything, she would have a discussion with the various other groups about the importance of humility too as being brash isn’t always a good thing. It would make people think you’re trying too hard, right?
The Tamamo Clan - Hu Tao isn't naive to the pleasures of the human body. However, she would struggle to accept the ideals of this clan given her upbringing. A person needs to be modest and avoid temptations unless one is married. That being said, she is already familiar with the idea of teasing people and has no problem with flirting should the situation come up. She knows how to be mischievous and play various pranks towards others. Despite knowing that she needs to take care of her business, it doesn’t stop her from occasionally avoiding her responsibilities to do something more interesting. Should she be in this clan, she would have difficulty in accepting the leader’s views but she would go along if certain boundaries are set in place.
As long as Hu Tao doesn’t have to do anything extreme such as having sex, she should be okay.
The Department of the Enma - Hu Tao would do best when it comes to the side of justice. As previously mentioned, she has good morals and will do what she feels is best to maintain peace. However, her morals can clash as she wants to do what she thinks is right. She did try her best to bury QiQi thinking that she was a zombie who couldn’t find peace in death. Even so, she apologized and tried to do the right thing by making amends. Should she be in this clan, she would do well as she ultimately wants to do the right thing.
Even if she isn’t exactly the most orderly person, she still believes in justice.
The Sutoku Alliance - Hu Tao would do well when sided with a clan that focuses on commerce. It isn’t any different from how Liyue runs its country and how she runs her business. Since it is about engaging with trade and exchange of information, she would feel most comfortable as she is used to negotiations and the fulfillment of contracts. She has a business to run with her parlor after all! Should she be in this clan, she could provide information to the leader about marketing techniques that could help with business.
That and she would get along with the leader. Can’t say no to someone who likes to take the simple pleasures in life.

Disclaimer: This is just one interpretation of Hu Tao. How I RP her is different from someone else! Also, as of the moment of this writing, I'm basing her on her lore, Liyue arc, and her story quest. I have yet to see the other character story quests!
That being said? Here I go!
I'm going with the assumption that Hu Tao is an orphan and that her parents died early. Her grandfather was the one who raised her by himself. I like to believe that is why she is so devoted to him and went out of her way to make an impressive burial for him. I also like to believe she went to The Border just to see him one last time as she never got a chance to say goodbye to him. After her experience, she knew that she couldn't live her life with regret. That explains why she's seen as odd by the people of Liyue.
Speaking of which, if Liyue is based around Ancient China, it would explain why she seems a little odd. An eccentric young woman who doesn't follow the traditional procedure of social order? It's a little strange. When Meng said that funerals need to be somber, Hu Tao merely said to do away with that and make death a little more cheerful! She only does this as she wants to be true to herself! In her mind, being a little happier would help people and the business!
Speaking of her business, I like to believe that she hates having someone help her run it. It is her family and it is her job to do it. She can't stand having someone else help with her personal matters. It's just unheard of. (That and the disappointment from her family that she can't do it all. It's the worst.) That being said, I think that Hu Tao has some difficulty opening up to people. Again, she just hates burdening people with her problems. It's all about saving face and as the owner of the business, she can't afford it. After all, she didn't want to disappoint herself, her family, or her grandfather!
In regard to her business, Hu Tao wants to make it more happier as she believes it would bring comfort to people. In Chinese culture, if one were to cry during a burial? It's seen as "unfashionable". By having people be more open, people can understand that death is just natural and it's okay! Once again, breaking all social norms and why people think she's odd.
Since she is an orphan, it's considered a bad omen. With all her family members gone, I wouldn't be surprised that people wouldn't want to talk to her. We don't want to attract any bad luck! It makes it double with her working as a funeral director. To make it even worse, since she doesn't want to live her life with regrets? A girl being so outspoken in old Chinese culture? That is a little strange. Is it any wonder why people don't like her?
On that note, I think that Hu Tao is very aware of the gossip around her. She knows people don't like her and that's fine. She knows people can't handle her strange ways. However, that doesn't stop her from feeling a little lonely and has trouble wondering who she can call a friend. While she considers the people who she hangs out with as friends, she thinks it's one-sided.
That being said? Here I go!
